The January 2023 High Elm Archers beginners course will be run over four consecutive Saturday mornings (indoors) at Formby High School (Gymnasium). The training sessions are intended to provide course attendees with an enjoyable archery experience which will cover how to shoot safely and the basics of target archery. To complete the course, candidates must attend all four course sessions.
Sessions commence at 09:30 am prompt and finish at 11:30 am. Candidates should arrive at the venue for registration at 09:15 am.
Please only sign up for the course if you are available to attend all the sessions as we cannot repeat missed sessions and cannot issue you a certificate if you do not complete the course.

Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults
High Elm Archers has formally adopted the Archery GB Policy for Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults. In short, the policy states that:
- Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults, have a right to enjoy archery free from all violence, abuse, neglect, maltreatment and exploitation.
- All children should be encouraged to fulfil their potential and inequalities should be challenged.
- All adults who work with Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults have a right to be treated with respect and dignity irrespective of their gender, disability, race, sexual orientation, marital status, political beliefs, age and offending background, in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (as amended).
- All adults who work with Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults have a right to fair and just treatment whenever a concern is raised about them including their conduct towards others.
- Parents have a right to expect that organisations, to which they entrust their children, provide appropriate care for them.
The Child Protection Policy applies to all High Elm Archers club members and attendees of High Elm Archers Beginners Courses who must agree to abide by it.
Codes of Conduct

Terms and Conditions
- An application form must be completed and returned to the club membership secretary along with your deposit / course fee before a place on the course is allocated.
- All medical conditions relevant to participating safely in the sport of archery must be disclosed on the course application form at the time of application.
(High Elm Archers does not discriminate against any applicant on the basis of any medical conditions or special needs; we only require this information to ensure that relevant safety measures are in place for all course attendees. All medical information relevant to you completing a course is held in strict confidence and will only be disclosed to the coaches / assistants coaching you).
- Beginners course fees are non-refundable.
- All juniors (under 18) attending the beginners course must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian who must remain present throughout the duration of each session of the course.
- All coaching and shooting will be strictly in accordance with Archery GB rules, regulations and codes of practice. Any contravention of shooting or safety rules will result in removal from the course.
- Course candidates are expected to obey the rules and safety guidelines at all times and to treat the facilities and equipment with respect.
- High Elm Archers reserve the right to exclude candidates from a beginners course should they persistently disobey the safety instructions or Rules of Shooting or represent a danger to themselves or other candidates.
- High Elm Archers reserve the right to change course dates and/or course venue at short notice in the event of adverse weather conditions e.g. persistent heavy rain, lightning, high winds or fog. This will be at the discretion of High Elm Archers on the grounds of safety and is non-negotiable.
- Students must complete the course before a certificate is issued; training sessions cannot be deferred or catch-up sessions arranged, if you cannot attend all course sessions please defer your booking to another course.
Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment do I need?
You do not need to bring any archery equipment – all equipment for the course is supplied by the club.
What should I wear?
Candidates should wear comfortable clothing including flat shoes which cover the entire foot, but should avoid loose baggy clothing. Items of jewellery or body piercing that might be caught by the bow string should be removed and long hair should be tied back.
Do I need insurance?
No. For the duration of the course you will be covered by the insurance provided by Archery GB. However, High Elm Archers cannot accept liability for loss, damage or injury incurred on your approach to the archery range or for damage to vehicles parked on the grounds.
Do I need snacks and refreshments?
During outdoor training sessions there will be a short break where tea and coffee should be available. But please feel free to bring your own drinks and snacks. We are currently unable to provide refreshments during indoor training courses. There are no breaks during the indoor training sessions.
