About us

High Elm Archers is a family-friendly archery club located near Hightown and Formby, established in its current form in 1997. Originally formed in the sixties, the club derives its name from the address of the two main founders, Bill and Sally Fraser, who resided at Elmcroft Road, Hightown. Disbanded in the late seventies, the club was revived in 1997 by a group of dedicated archers, including the late Bill Fraser.

Our members practise recurve archery, compound archery and traditional archery and range from those who simply shoot for fun and enjoy the social aspects of club membership to those who shoot in competition.

During the summer our venue is at Altcar armed forces training camp, located near Hightown and Formby, where we enjoy the use of a very secure, sheltered range with ample parking, a meeting room and toilet facilities. The outdoor range allows us to shoot both Clout and Target archery at the full range of distances up to 100 yards or 90 metres.

Our winter season is split between indoor and outdoor shooting. On Saturdays we shoot at Altcar, as in summer. On Wednesday evenings we shoot at our new indoor venue, Formby High School.

Beginners courses and taster sessions

Beginners courses are run by our own Archery GB-licensed coaches with the able assistance of experienced club archers. We also run hour-long taster sessions for those who wish to have a go at archery. See our Beginners page for details.
