Do you want to join an archery club in the Merseyside area or just want to try archery?

High Elm Archers run beginners courses at regular intervals throughout the year, both indoors at Formby High and outdoors at Altcar training camp. For further details of course duration and timings, visit the Beginners course information page.

The courses are run by our qualified archery coaches with the assistance of experienced club archers. The course is an introduction to the sport of archery, for people who are interested in learning how to participate safely.

During the course, candidates will be instructed in:

  • range layout and safety
  • how to assemble a recurve takedown bow
  • barebow recurve archery
  • free style recurve archery using a sight
  • introduction to tournaments and rounds

Courses cost £60 per person

On successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate to show that you have reached a level of competence that will allow you to apply to join an archery club and become a member of Archery GB, however you should note that completion of a beginners course does not guarantee club membership.

Taster sessions

If you can’t attend a beginners course or just want to try archery, why not book a place on one of our taster sessions? This allows you to shoot for a full hour under the guidance of an experienced archer.

See the box below for the date of the next pre-bookable session.

We are currently unable to offer taster sessions – watch this space for further developments.

If you are interested in an archery beginners course or a taster session please contact our membership secretary, Ralph,  by sending us an email to highelmarchers@gmail.com, or use the Contact page.
